If you are launching Outlook for the first time: The Outlook Startup window will open where you would click Next... Select Do not upgrade if prompted for email upgrade options, click Next. Select Yes for configuring an email account, click Next.
If the startup window didn't come up (e.g., this is not the first time you've used Outlook on the computer): Open the Tools menu and go to Email Accounts. *You may want to delete old inactive accounts listed here now because they will bring up errors when you try to "Send and Receive" later* Select the Add a new e-mail Account, then Next... At this point, you should see the Server Type window. Select POP3 or IMAP (see POP vs. IMAP), then click Next...

For Your Name, enter your name as you'd like recipients of your email to see it. Enter your full email address where prompted. Both the incoming and outgoing mail servers are mail.hrec.coop. The username is the whole email address, not just the first portion as Outlook will default to. Enter your password (unless you'd like outlook to prompt for the password every time mail is being checked) and click the More Settings... button.

Check outgoing server requires authentication with the same settings as incoming.

Go to the Advanced tab. Change the Outgoing Server (SMTP) port number to 587 as shown below. If you intend to use more than one computer with this email account, you might want to check the option to Leave a copy of messages on server for a period of time (POP only) . This way the messages will still be on the server when the second computer checks for new mail. When done, click OK.

Go ahead and click Test Account Settings.

All tasks should complete with a green check mark. Note errors before closing the window and re-check your settings if needed.

Close the Test and Accounts windows. You are now ready to use Microsoft Outlook 2003 with your email account.
